Who is this package suitable for?

Learners who are already confident and trained to drive independently but wish to gain a clearer understanding of the MVR assessment requirements and standards before sitting their P's Driving Test.

Please note: The 45-minute information session is theory-based only and does not involve practical driving instruction or on-road training.

Yes. All lesson prices include pick-up and drop-off within:

Additionally, P-plate driving tests cannot be conducted in rural areas, so learners must attend training and testing in Palmerston.

Motorbike FAQs

What are the eligibility requirements to obtain an NT Learner Motorcycle Licence?

To be eligible for your NT Learner (L) Motorcycle Licence, you must:

  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Be a Northern Territory resident with an MVR Customer ID or valid NT driver licence
  • Attend and complete the Pre-Learner Motorcycle Licence Course (completed with us)
  • Demonstrate competency in all required riding skills during the course
  • Complete the MVR Motorcycle Theory Test (multiple-choice) before or after your course

After successfully completing the course, we process all paperwork required for you to obtain your R-Class Learner Motorcycle Licence.

What happens after I contact the instructor and make payment for the Motorcycle Licence Course?

One of our motorcycle instructors will contact you with:

  • Your course date and start time
  • Meeting location: Good Shepherd Lutheran School, Howard Springs
  • What you need to bring
  • Any additional course instructions

Equipment provided:

  • Motorcycle
  • Helmet
  • Gloves

You must wear:

  • Enclosed shoes
  • Long trousers
  • Long-sleeve shirt or t-shirt

Your body must be fully covered for safety during training.

Should I go to the MVR before the motorcycle course date?

  • It is strongly recommended to complete your Rider Knowledge Test at the MVR before the course.
  • If you cannot do it before the course, you may complete it after. Simply inform your instructor.
  • When you pass, MVR will issue a Rider Knowledge Test result sheet with your NT licence number.
  • Bring either the result sheet or your NT Driver Licence to the course.

Completing the test early avoids delays and ensures you are fully prepared.

Who should apply for the Learner Rider Course, and how long does it take?

You should apply for the Learner Rider Course (Pre-Learner) if you:

  • Have never held a motorcycle licence
  • Want to obtain your NT Learner (L) Rider Licence

This is a 6-hour course, designed for first-time riders needing essential motorcycle skills and safety knowledge.

Who should apply for the Provisional Rider Course, and how long does it take?

You should apply for the Provisional Rider Licence Course if you:

  • Have held your NT Learner Rider Licence (L) for at least 6 consecutive months, or
  • Are transferring an overseas motorcycle licence to an NT Rider Licence

This course is about 5 hours, designed for riders progressing toward their NT Provisional (P) Rider Licence.

What are the conditions for all Provisional Riders (P-Plate)?

As a Provisional rider, you must follow all conditions below:

  • Zero blood alcohol concentration (0.00)
  • Maximum speed limit: 100 km/h
  • Display your P-plate at the rear of the motorcycle
  • No pillion passengers
  • Ride only LAMS-approved motorcycles

What is a Restricted Rider Licence?

If you already have an open car licence and complete the Provisional Rider Course, your next stage is a Restricted Rider Licence (12 months).

Restricted licence conditions:

  • No pillion passengers
  • Only ride LAMS-approved motorcycles

Restrictions are slightly easier than the provisional stage but still ensure safe progression.

If I have a Provisional Car Licence (P-plates) and never had a motorcycle licence, which course do I start with?

You must start with the Motorcycle Learner Licence Course (Pre-Learner). A Provisional car licence does not grant motorcycle riding entitlement.

If I have a Full or Open Car Licence and never had a motorcycle licence, which course do I start with?

You must start with the Motorcycle Learner Licence Course (Pre-Learner). A full or open car licence does not exempt you. You still begin with the Learner Rider Course.

What does LAMS-approved motorcycle mean in the NT?

LAMS stands for Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme. A LAMS-approved motorcycle:

  • Has 660cc or less engine capacity
  • Has a power-to-weight ratio of 150 kW per tonne or less
  • Is listed on the NT LAMS-approved motorcycle list

Who must ride LAMS?

You must ride a LAMS motorcycle until upgrading to an unrestricted licence if you are:

  • Learner (L) riders
  • Provisional or Restricted (P) riders
